Good Morning! We’ve been out of school since Monday at 12:30 because of a strong ice/snow storm that came through.
It’s allowed me to have some extra down time to catch up on blogging.
A few weekends ago we decided to go down to Florida for the weekend! Crazy, huh?!?
Chris’s dad was down there on a sabbatical (he’s a pastor). He hasn’t taken a vacation since Chris’s mom passed away in 2019, so we finally convinced him to take a month off and go somewhere.
He rented a condo right on the beach in Navarre, FL. He had mentioned to Chris how he would love for us to come down and see him, but we had told him it’s just too hard to drive down there (9 hours) and pull the girls from school, miss work, etc.
Well, it was a Thursday evening and Liz told us her and her boyfriend had broke up. (Her first real boyfriend) She was sad and it was a long night at our house.
That next day (Friday) at school Chris emailed me and said, “You know what, let’s go to Florida. You only live once and we need some happy in our life.”
If you haven’t learned already, Chris is a softie and can’t stand to see any of us sad or upset! LOL
So he texted the girls on their lunch break and said come home right after school, we are going to Florida!
We were all home by 3:10 and packed and ready to go by 3:30. I love that my girls are great travelers and can get ready for a trip so quickly!
We made it down to Florida at 1:30 a.m. It was a long drive, but an easy drive with not much traffic at all.
We slept in the next morning but woke up at the beach! Definitely my kind of Saturday morning.

We then headed to the Destin area. We actually ended up driving all the way down to Seaside, FL and hitting up 30A. That little area with all the food trucks and shops was darling and we loved spending the morning there!

It was a little chilly, but the vibe was so cool! We definitely want to go back when the weather is warmer to check it out again.
We of course had to hit up some shops for the girls and then made our way back to Navarre to shower and rest before that evening.
We walked along the beach before we left out that evening. Seeing the ocean is definitely good for the soul!

That evening we went back to Destin (no traffic so you can easily drive everywhere in the winter time).
We ate supper at McGuire’s Irish Pub. This is one of our favorite restaurants! Their Boxty’s are SOOO good!

After we ate we went back to the condo and went straight to bed. We were still exhausted from driving the night before.
Sunday morning we woke up early and went down to the beach! We were able to walk a long time up and down the beach. I love that the girls love looking for shells and watching the ocean with us. All our walks along the beach will always be a core memory of mine.

After that we headed to Pensacola, FL. The girls wanted to go to Ron Jon’s Surf Shop and get a new shirt from there.
We then ate lunch at Peg Leg Pete’s restaurant. This was an excellent lunch spot! The grouper fish was so good. It started to rain, so we decided to head back to our condo.

We watched football that afternoon but then once the rain stopped, we headed out to walk the Navarre Fishing Pier. This is also one of my favorite things about Florida.

We were able to watch some surfers while we were walking along the pier. The waves were great waves for surfing and they were so fun to watch!
That afternoon we went souvenir shopping and then got a sno-ball at Tommy’s! If you are ever in Navarre, Florida you must stop there and try a sno-ball! It’s the best!

That Sunday evening we ordered pizza and watched the other football game. We wanted the Cowboys to win but they just couldn’t beat the 49ers.
Monday we had to head back home. We didn’t want to leave, but it was back to reality!

On the way home we stopped at Buc-ees! WOW! That was our first time to stop at one and we were impressed. We didn’t like their popular Beaver Nuggets though and might be in the minority with that. But such a cool gas station!

We made it back to Missouri around 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Even though it was a quick trip, any time in Florida is a great time! We were so glad we were able to make it happen and spend time with Chris’s dad down there.
Hope y’all have a great Thursday!
