This week I had the pleasure to interview Dara from Not In Jersey blog.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a stay at home mom to 3 living in the Kansas City area. My kids are 15, 13, and 10. I enjoy reading, photography, knitting, and travel.
How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start blogging?
I’ve been blogging regularly for probably 8 years. I started my blog as a way to share our life in Kansas after a long distance move from NJ. I used to share a lot of my kids’ school work when they were younger!
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
It’s a play on The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy says “we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
Of all your posts you have written, which is your favorite and why?
One of my favorites is How I Lost 50 pounds in 6 months. (https://www.notinjersey.com/2019/07/losing-50-pounds.html) I love my travel posts because we like to look back at our previous adventures. I also love sharing book reviews!
You need some encouragement. Who is your go to person for a little pick me up?
Most likely my husband!
You have friends coming over to dinner tomorrow night. What are you going to make for a meal?
Maybe my vegetarian chili or a sheet pan chicken dish. I like making a lot of yummy salads!
What is your favorite dessert recipe?
Blondies!

You are planning an evening out. What’s your favorite go-to restaurant for a fun time?
I left all of my favorite restaurants in NJ!
If you could have a weekend away, just you and your husband, where would you go?
Right now somewhere in Oregon is my wish, because it’s my last state that I need to visit to complete all 50!
What are some pet peeves of yours, and why?
Crowds, people who say stupid things for attention, and when my kids make a lot of noise for no reason.
What’s your go to type of music?
I like classic rock a lot, my favorite singer is Billy Joel.
What’s your idea of the perfect family day?
Visiting somewhere new, with everyone having a good attitude and being willing to be in pictures!
Has living through a pandemic taught you anything?
So many things can be divisive. It would be wonderful if all of us could work together to stop the spread of the virus, but people will do what they want to do. On the more positive side, I learned that I’m less than an introvert than I thought – it is so exciting when we actually see our friends!
Favorite book you have ever read?
My favorite book is The Time Traveler’s Wife
Best advice you would give to a new blogger?
Be yourself and write in your own voice!
