10 on the 10th- February

Since yesterday was the 10th, it’s time for my 10 on the 10th link-up today!

This month’s topic is 10 ways to show someone you love them.

I believe when you love someone, it’s important to show them you love them daily.  There are many different ways to do this, but here are my top 10 ways:

Pray for them!  This is a HUGE deal!  No one should ever go a day without praying for those they love.

TELL THEM!  I don’t go a day without telling Chris and the girls that I love them.  When we talk on the phone that’s how we end the conversation, when we leave the house, that’s what we say as we are walking out the door.  I think it’s important to always let those that you love HEAR it from you every chance you get!

Give them your undivided attention.  I am so guilty of not doing this all the time, but I am trying to get better at it.  Thankfully when the girls were smaller smartphones weren’t really all that popular.  Now, I feel like I constantly have my phone with me.  But when the girls and Chris are trying to talk to me, I remember to put my phone down and truly listen to them without the distraction of anything else.  I want my girls to always feel safe to tell me anything and I don’t want to be distracted during my time with them!

Do a small gesture.  Some people don’t think small gestures mean anything, but I promise they do!  Smiling at someone could make their whole day.  Holding the door open for someone shows them that you care.  Little things can make a big difference!

Surprise them!  I love surprising the people I love with things that I know they will love.  For instance, the other week the girls said they miss eating Chaco Tacos like they did in the summer time a lot, so the next time I went to the grocery store I picked up a box of Chaco Tacos.  This made their DAY!  I also try to keep the fridge/cabinets full of all the things they like.  This shows major love at our house.

Write a note of encouragement.  Emily is the best at leaving me sweet little notes all over my office and classroom. Chris and I also try to write each other a note every now and then to show that we are thinking of each other.  I also try to hand-write notes to my friends/co-workers when I know they might be going through a tough time.

Deliver supper for them.  Sometimes it is nice to take the stress of a friend and deliver supper to their crew for the night.  Not just when they are sick or going through a trying time either.  The other night I made meatballs for my family and made an extra batch for my BFF and her family because I knew how much she and her husband loved them.  Their reaction to this was priceless.

Get them that salt/pepper shaker.  I know this sounds weird, but if something at the store makes you think of someone you love, get it for them!  Brighten their day!  My sister collects salt/pepper shakers so every time we are somewhere and I see a cool salt/pepper shaker combo, I get it for my sister.  This can show your loved one that you are constantly thinking of them, even when you are not together.

Find out their love language.  If you truly love someone, take the time to know their love language. Chris loves quality time together.  No distractions, just me and him.  Liz loves words of affirmation and to be built up.  Emily is our cuddler/snuggler and likes the physical touch of knowing she is loved.  Everyone in my tribe is different.  I have taken the time to know what their love language is and how to show them that I love them.

Spend time together.  Lastly, the best way to show someone you love them, is to spend time together.  Go to the movies, have them over for supper, play a board game, watch TV together.  Whatever it is, just be together!

  1. A definite AMEN to number one! Cover them every day, all day in that prayerful goodness. Supper is also a great idea too! Hope you have a great week!

  2. I definitely think much of life is the little things.. they add up to such big things!! I rarely buy sugary snacks for my boys as I am trying to drive home the importance of eating well but when I do splurge I try to get them each a little something I know is their favorite and I just love watching their eyes light up.

  3. GREAT ideas! I like ‘deliver supper’ or I’ve been known to give pizza gift cards to hard working mommies. Would like to be on the receiving end of that, myself! And the salt and pepper shaker idea. I ten to think gifts given just because I thought of you are more meaningful than birthday gifts and Christmas gifts that are kind of ‘have to’ gifts. So glad you are keeping 10 on the 10th alive.
