I know I say this every month, but I can’t believe March is already {almost} over! It has been a crazy, but great month!
Today I am sharing with you the books I was able to read in March.
ONE
The first book I read this month was It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I really enjoyed reading this book because it was a book that I couldn’t stop thinking about. The story is about a young woman named Lily, who was raised in an abusive home. She watched her dad beat her mom almost every night. When she was older and in a relationship, she swore to herself that she would never be in an abusive relationship. Until she met Ryle. Ryle had it all~ he was a neurosurgeon and had the good looks. Lily falls in love with him quickly, but it might’ve been too quickly. Shortly after their wedding, she sees a part of Ryle she swore to herself she would never be apart of. I was torn constantly reading this book on who I should root for. I went back and forth liking Ryle and then hating him. This book really made me think about how some women struggle and make tough choices on staying in an abusive relationship or getting out. It also made me appreciate Chris even more and the great relationship we have!
TWO
The second book I read this month was Here’s to Us by Elin Hilderbrand. If you haven’t figured it out already, I am a huge Elin Hilderbrand fan. I usually try to read at least one of her books every month. Here’s to Us was a really good book, but probably not my favorite by her. It was about a popular chef, Deacon Thorpe, who had lived a crazy lifestyle. He was married 3 times and had a different child with each woman. In the book, Deacon’s lifestyle catches up with him and he passes away. He left all 3 of his wives, his children, and his best friend with a horrible mess to clean up. The 3 ladies: Laurel, Scarlett, and Belinda don’t get along very well to say the least and now they have to meet up at Deacon’s Nantucket summer cottage to figure things out. I liked how they all worked through their issues and ended up coming to terms with a lot of things of the past. I didn’t like this book because it seemed a little “choppy” to me because each chapter was told by someone else. They also included some of Deacon’s famous recipes in the book, but it was a lot of lobster and fancy meals that I would never cook in a million years. Overall though, I enjoyed the plot of this book.
THREE
The last book I read this month was Portraits of Courage by President George W. Bush. Chris and I had watched President Bush on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon explaining his new book. He also had some of the Veteran’s on the show telling of their experience in the armed forces. This definitely intrigued me to get the book. The book is just a simple collection of paintings that President Bush did of these American warriors. After the painting he wrote a little bit about each person and how special they were to him and why. It was really touching to read how a former President appreciates and honors our Veterans. It made me appreciate President Bush even more for all the work he does to help these heroes coming out of the armed forces.
Have a great rest of the week and enjoy the last day of March tomorrow!
I have been so intrigued about President Bush’s book. I will have to put this on my “to read” list. I LOVE “It Ends with Us”, and it does make a person think about some of the tough decisions others have to make. I loved the friendship that was brought about because of Lily’s circumstances with Ryle, and I also loved the ending. I have never read an Elin Hilderbrand book before and really should check this one out too. Thanks for sharing, I love book recommendations!
