Friday Favorites

Hey, hey!  It’s Friday!  My days of the week are all messed up because of the holiday and summer time.  I’m glad to see Friday here though because my sister and brother in-law are coming over for a fish fry at our house tonight!  I’m SO excited!  Chris went fishing again yesterday with my uncle Scott and cousin, Kai, just to make sure he had enough fish.  I know he secretly just wanted a good reason to go fishing!

Anyways, today I am linking up with Narci, Erika, and Andrea to share with you my Friday Favorites.

ONE

My absolute favorite thing from this week is so dear to me!  I shared earlier in my post about my dad that he built picnic tables and other things after he became disabled.  Well, one on his first projects was to build some picnic tables for the city of Doniphan.  He ended up building three hexagon picnic tables for them that they put down at the River Front park.  I remember always driving by there as a kid and then as a teenager and feeling such pride knowing my dad built them.

After my dad passed away Chris and his dad contacted the city of Doniphan and asked how much it would cost for us to buy those picnic tables back from them.  They said they had gotten their money’s worth out of them and wanted to donate them back to the family.  Chris was SO thrilled!

We were going to let it be a surprise to get them refinished for my mom and sister, but the city of Doniphan ended up delivering the picnic tables to my mom’s house so we had to explain to her what was going on. I think both my mom and sister cried happy tears of joy knowing they would be getting something dad built.

Chris took the picnic tables up to Teen Challenge and had them sand them down, fix a few broken boards, put some more screws in a few places, and put a weather resistant stain on them.   The end product is beautiful!

We delivered mom and Julie’s to them just this week.  For going through multiple floods and being about 20-25 years old, the picnic tables are in great shape!

I teared up when Chris brought the tables home.  It is priceless to know that dad spent many hours building the picnic tables and that now we are going to be able to enjoy them for many years to come.  We put ours under our big oak tree at first, but then moved it onto our deck so we would get more use out of it.  The girls call it Papa Tim’s table and I love having a little piece of him at our house.

TWO

The second thing I am loving this week is that I finally bought me a new tank top.  I don’t like to spend a lot of money on myself.  I will buy things for the girls and for the house any day, but I am just not a big shopper for me.  I was in Target the other day looking for a few new things for the beach, and fell in love with this tank top.  I’m not a huge graphic t-shirt lover, but this tank top was so soft and looked really good on me.  Plus, it was only $10 and has the perfect summer time saying.  Find it here at Target.

THREE

The last favorite from this week might sound silly to some, but to me it’s a big deal!  I completed my first class for my Master’s Degree!  This is HUGE!  I have had two classes at the same time since the beginning of June and the first few weeks really kicked my booty!  I finally finished the 4-week class and now only have the other class left this summer.  It feels good to have a class behind me.  Only 539 more to go!  {that’s an exaggeration}

To celebrate, the girls that I am doing the program with and I decided to go out and get some ice cream late last night!  We had a great night of talking about the class assignments and catching up on our summer.  We missed you, Whitney!
