Happy New Year

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here! One of my goals in 2024 is to blog more because I love having our life documented to look back on, so I hope you see a lot from me this year!

There has been a lot that has happened since I last posted in May, but I am going to hit the highlights.

Right when school ended we loaded up and went to Hawaii for a week with my sister and her family! It was the best time with so many new memories made. We packed in as much as we could the week we were there. The views were spectacular, we swam under a waterfall, went to an authentic luau, and had the best beaches by our condo. I am so thankful we were able to take this trip!

I ended my career at Dexter by being the summer school admin. This was such a hectic time in my life because while I was doing this summer school intern, I was attending some new principal conferences and working on things for Bloomfield, so it got a little overwhelming at times, but I made it through!

Chris and I sold our house on Finley Drive and moved the week we got back from Hawaii. I cried the day we closed on it and I usually don’t get attached to houses and do this. But, I loved that house and it was the “home” we lived in the longest that the girls will remember. However, I am excited about the future and building a home with Chris in a few years. Right now we are renting and it’s a BEAUTIFUL house! I am so glad we rented this house because it has given me and Chris lots of ideas on what we like/dislike when we build.

Our oldest nephew, Tyler, was able to stay with us this summer because he worked at WW Woods here in town to save money for college. It helped him staying with us so he didn’t have to make the drive every day for work during the week and he would just go home on the weekends. We loved having him around and getting to spend extra time with him before he left for college.

Right before school started in August we lost our sweet dog, Happy Sunshine. There was a stray dog that attacked and killed her. I was so upset at myself for weeks afterwards because I usually ALWAYS go outside with Happy but that evening I was busy cooking supper and folding laundry and I let her outside by herself. I knew when she didn’t come back to the door after a few minutes something was wrong. And when I went outside and didn’t see her my heart sank and I knew something bad had happened. Chris found her in a ditch a few houses down and she was bit right in the heart. We were all so heartbroken~ I think I cried for 2 weeks straight every time I came home! The girls are begging me for another dog, but my heart just isn’t ready yet. We had Happy for almost 12 years and it was like losing a family member.

We all started school and are enjoying the new school year! I can’t believe the first semester is already done. Emily is a sophomore, Liz is a junior, Chris is still teaching computer classes at the middle school, and I am the principal at Bloomfield Elementary. I hope to blog some this year about my principal job, it is something I am so thankful to be able to do every day!

The girls both played volleyball again this fall, so that kept us so busy until around Halloween time. I felt like I went straight from work to a gym watching them play most days, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Liz shot her first ever deer this season- FINALLY! It’s been a running joke in our family that she has the worst luck when she hunts, but she proved us wrong this year.

We had the best holiday season. I finally felt like I was in a better groove at school and it was nice to slow down and enjoy time with family and friends. Our Christmas was simple and just what we needed.

When I reflect back on this year, it was definitely a year of change for me. New house and new job was a lot to take in! But I learned a long time ago to always lean on God and He will guide me in everything I do. He is so faithful and good to us!

I pray you and your family have a happy and healthy 2024!
