Meet and Greet Tuesday

Meet and Greet Tuesday

Hi, all!

I am so excited for today’s post!  I am starting a new series called Meet and Greet.
A fellow blogger, Johannah, used to have a weekly post about getting to know other bloggers better.  Well, I reached out to Johannah and she so graciously “passed the Meet and Greet torch” along to me.  I am so excited about this, and I hope you guys will enjoy it as well!
Today, I am highlighting Bri from What’s Brewing with Bri blog.  I’ve known her for a few years now and swear we are soul sisters.  We are both fellow T1D mommas and have so much in common!
Let’s get to know Bri better:

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Briana Runde, but all my friends call me Bri. 🙂 First of all, I am a daughter to the One True King, and have been for about 25 years. Second, I am also a wife to Joe. I sometimes call him “My Hunter” because, well, he is a huge {and amazing! 🙂 } hunter and I think the nickname is cute. We have been together for 16 years and married for 14… our 15th wedding anniversary will be coming up on February 25th. Together we have four beautiful children, two girls and two boys in that order… 14, soon-to-be 12, almost 8, and our “baby” is 3. Yes, I think I will always call him my baby. I am a SAH/homeschooling mom. I always knew I wanted to be a SAHM. My other dream was to be a teacher; I just never thought I would teach my own kids, ha! I taught in the school system for a few years prior to staying home, and now this fall will start my TENTH year of homeschooling my children! Some things I love outside of my family include reading, blogging, and working out.
How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start blogging?
I started blogging back in September 2011, so this fall will be nine years. At that time my blog was named, “School in Our Slippers” because I wanted to document and share our homeschooling journey. Turns out I didn’t do a ton of that. Instead I share more about our family life, occasionally some recipes, as well as my favorite products, etc.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?

I kind of answered this in the previous question, but my blog name has changed. In 2019, I decided to change the name since “School in Our Slippers” totally didn’t fit with my blog space. My SIL, who is super creative, was the one that came up with my first name, so I reached out to her asking for a new suggestion. She thought of a perfect one… “What’s Brewing with Bri.” 🙂

Of all your posts you have written, which is your favorite and why?

Honestly, it would be the story I share of my son, Leland. He was diagnosed at the age of two with Type 1 Diabetes, and it was such a hard time for us. As his mama, struggling to keep my head above water with that diagnosis, blogging about it was extremely therapeutic for me.  Find that blog post here.

You need some encouragement.  Who is your go to person for a little pick me up?

Joe! He is such a rock in my life and always looking at the upside of things. He has been my shoulder to cry on more times than I can count. Outside of him I would say my girlfriend, Heather. She is a wonderful listener, and most importantly, always points me back to Christ.

You have friends coming over to dinner tomorrow night.  What are you going to make for a meal?

In the summer, my go-to meal for company is always grilling out. Hamburgers, brats, chicken… it’s all so easy to prepare, it feels like a no-stress meal… especially since Joe takes care of cooking the meat ;)… can you go wrong with grilling out?! Seems most people love it.

Outside of summer, I like to make a dish called chicken poppy seed. It’s the first meal I ever made for Joe, and it’s been our favorite since.

You are planning an evening out.  What’s your favorite go-to restaurant for a fun time?

Our favorite restaurant is Nagoya. Joe and I have done numerous date nights there. We LOVE the hibachi, and it is absolutely a blast watching them cook all the food all the grill right in front of us.

If you could have a weekend away, just you and your husband, where would you go?

Anywhere the kids aren’t, ha, kidding! Joe and I have been talking about going to Nashville, but that would be more than a weekend trip. I think I would have to say a jamboree weekend (is that what they’re called?) of country music concerts and we would take the camper to stay in.

What are some pet peeves of yours, and why?

One would be when someone is brushing their teeth and talking to me. There are so many better times to try and talk to one another. Another is when someone spills water on the floor and doesn’t wipe it up and then I end up stepping in it and getting wet socks.

What’s your go to type of music?

I love listening to Christian music. I have it on often and love how I can  connect with my Father through singing.
What’s your idea of the perfect family day?
I feel like we are living the perfect days this summer. In the spring we bought first family boat, so our evenings and weekends have consisted of being out on the lakes. We fish, relax, and swim with the kids. Joe and I both said it’s been a whole different world for our family; it’s been a ton of fun!!
Favorite Scripture verse and why?
This is such a hard one to answer. I have so many favorite verses, and it usually depends on what season I’m going through. But if I had to pick just one, I would say Jeremiah 29:11. It’s a verse that encourages me to the core, knowing that God has me and is with me always; they are His plans for me.
Best advice you would give to a new blogger?
Just start, be consistent, and be you! Don’t worry about having everything perfect or knowing it all. You will learn as you go. Also, whatever schedule you decide works for you, whether that’s daily or every other day, stick to it. That consistency will help your readers know when to come back to see your posts.
