COVID-19 (First Update)

Hello, friends!

Today is officially our first day of “quarantine” from the coronavirus .

It’s almost surreal what is happening in the U.S. today, really not just the U.S. but the world!

COVID-19 or the coronavirus has been happening since early December.

It started in China and honestly I don’t feel like the U.S. paid much attention to it.

Then, it started spreading to other countries like South Korea and Italy.

It has finally made its way to the United States.

On March 1, there was a lot more talk about it in the U.S.

The first case was confirmed in WA state.

Here is a map of the U.S. as of March 3. That is when Americans started taking note of this whole COVID-19 thing.

Notice there were only about 14 states that had confirmed cases.

It wasn’t 3 days later on March 6 when a new map was released. Now there were around 20 states with cases of the coronavirus!

And then a week later, on March 14 here is a map showing the confirmed cases!! In a matter of a week the number of cases jumped from 200 to over 1300!

This is when we started seeing schools shut down and things happening.

We quickly realized this was a pandemic and something to take seriously! The news started reported of people going into grocery stores and hoarding things.

They hoarded food, water, hand soap, and even things such as toilet paper!?!

Here are a few pictures of our local Wal-Mart:

Amidst all the chaos and uncertainty, we went to school on Monday (March 16), knowing lots of schools in California, New York, and other big states had already closed their schools for a few weeks.

We got word on Monday after school that we would also be closing our schools. The number of cases in MO was up to 9 and our local schools met and felt like for the safety of everyone involved it was best to shut down.

We are officially on pause from school until April 6 as of now.

Chris and I aren’t sure what is going to come from all this. The number of cases in each state keeps getting higher and higher every day.

As of this afternoon when I looked, there were almost 8,000 cases here in the United States. And over 100 deaths.

It’s hard to believe what is happening. It’s almost like we are living in a movie.

Despite everything going on, Chris and I had a great first day at home with the girls.

We’ve tried to explain it to them the best we know how on what’s happening in the world.

They are old enough to understand and realize why we have to be out of school.

We are just going to do our best to stay healthy by staying home, enjoying each other’s company, and praying for those around the world affected by this awful disease.

I plan to keep a weekly update on how COVID-19 is progressing.

Hope you and your family stay safe!

  1. All of this is just so insane, isn’t it? We also went to school on March 16th, and then schools here shut down after Monday. This morning i’m seeing Facebook posts of surrounding schools in our area that are now staying closed until April 27th. I am so sad for all the seniors in high school. This is suppose to be there time and it’s all being taken away from them. I hope you all stay safe Jen!!

  2. I can’t believe any of this really though, but we’ve decided to control what we can..our attitudes. Our kids will feed off our attitudes, so we’re just enjoying having extra time together, and homeschooling isn’t too bad. My kids are actually enjoying working together and with mom! Stay healthy and safe, friend!
