Michigan Trip- Part 3

Happy Friday! TGIF!

This should be my last recap of our Michigan trip. Michigan was such a beautiful state, there’s just so much to share!

When we made it to Marquette, MI, we immediately went to the famous Sugarloaf Mountain.

We chose the easy trail because it said it was only about 1/2 a mile trail.

Well, they forgot to mention after the 1/2 mile walking trail, there were 292 steps to climb to get to the top of the mountain!

This showed us how out of shape we are! HA

BUT, the views of Lake Superior at the top were spectacular and worth all the steps and sweat!

After Marquette, we made our way down the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan.

We stopped at Green Bay, Wisconsin and went by Lambeau Field, because my dad loved the Green Bay Packers. (Chris too!)

It was neat to see where they play and the field was a lot bigger than I expected!

After Green Bay, we made our way down to Chicago, IL. We got here LATE at night and it was our actual anniversary that day, so we did what every normal couple that’s been married for 15 years would do and got take out and stayed in our hotel watching game 7 of the Stanley Cup.

Our St. Louis Blues won, so what a great anniversary gift to us!

The next day (Thursday) we left early to head into the city of Chicago.

If I’m honest, Chicago scared me a little bit, so we didn’t know the best way to get around downtown.

We ended up driving downtown and parking in a parking garage near Millennium Park and walking every where we wanted to go.

It was way easier than I thought it would be! And I felt safe the whole time.

On this particular morning it was 48 degrees and sprinkling. Needless to say, we walked FAST!

We walked through the Millennium Park and stopped for pictures at the famous Cloud Gate, also known as “The Bean.”

It was really cool!

Then, we walked and found the famous Chicago sign at the theater.

And of course, no trip to Chicago is complete without eating Chicago style deep dish pizza!

Yummy!

We had a few other things planned to see in Chicago, but we left early once we found out Chris’s mom had taken a turn for the worse and drove straight home.

When we knew we were heading up north, a goal on this trip was to find 15 lighthouses, one for each year of marriage.

Part of the fun of this trip was just driving places near Lake Michigan looking for a new lighthouse. We laughed and laughed at some of the GPS spots that said there was a lighthouse there and in reality it was NOT a lighthouse!

However, we were successful and found 15 beautiful lighthouses. Pictures don’t do them justice!

Chris and I are so thankful we were able to get away for a few days just us two. I’m so glad Chris likes to still “date” me and takes me on special trips and makes time with me a priority!

Traveling and memories will always be way better than any “thing” you can ever buy me!

If you ever have the chance to go to Michigan, do it! It’s such a beautiful state.

We will definitely be going back and probably next time with two blonde haired girls with us!

Have a great Friday and be safe celebrating the 4th of July this weekend if that’s what you are doing.

  1. I live in Ohio but previously lived in Chicago – it’s a great city! If you bring the girls back to Michigan you could try to incorporate Cedar Point – it’s not far from Michigan at all!
