10 on the 10th

It’s January 10th, so that means it’s time for my new 10 on the 10th link-up.  I’m so excited!

Thanks Erin for graciously allowing me to take over this link-up.  I can’t wait to read everyone’s posts!

Today’s topic is 10 random facts about me.

But first, a little (re)-introduction of myself for my new followers/readers.

I am Jen, author of this little blog.  I blog for no one else but myself.  This is my space where I can share what’s on my heart.

I am not worried about comments, or followers, or page views or anything like that.

I blog because I have made a connection with other bloggers who have become great friends to me.  Also, so my girls have a space to look back on when they are older.

First and foremost, I love God and want others to see His love through me.  I am so thankful for everything he has blessed me with in my life!

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Chris, who keeps me laughing every day.

We have two beautiful girls, Liz and Emily, that I talk about A LOT!  We are also foster parents, but currently don’t have any kids placed with us.

We have two dogs, Happy and Max.  Happy is a 6 year old Silkese (half Silky/half Maltese) and Max is our (almost) 1 year old GoldenDoodle.

I am an 8th grade math teacher and assistant volleyball coach at our local Middle School.  I love, love, love my job and all that comes with it.  8th graders keep you hip and young feeling, even though some days they may look at you like you are an alien!

I recently lost my dad to different health issues.

And Chris’s mom is currently going through a battle with stage 4 colon cancer.

Our oldest daughter, Liz, is also a Type 1 Diabetic.  It’s a silent disease that is a daily struggle, but she does awesome with it!

We have had our share of “storms” to go through, but we sing a hallelujah and praise God even through our storms.

Thank you so much for following along with me and reading my blog every day.  It means so much!

Now, onto the fun!  Here are a few random things about me:

  1.  I started dating Chris when I was 15 years old.
  2. I was scared to tell Chris I was pregnant with Emily because Elizabeth was only 8 months old!
  3. I was on the Doniphan Donettes basketball team that won 2nd in state my sophomore year.
  4. I have read every book by Karen Kingsbury.
  5. I am 6′ tall and feel like a giant most of the time.
  6. I can’t remember song lyrics for anything!  Have you ever seen those memes about people singing the words to a song wrong?  Yeah, that’s me.
  7. I have always known I wanted to be a teacher.  I used to play school for hours upon hours.  Now, I get to do that and get paid doing it!  🙂
  8. I have only flown on an airplane once in my life.  I hope to change this soon!
  9. I love taking baths and take one almost every night.
  10. I haven’t drank ANY caffeine in over a year.  I only drink water and the occasional strawberry lemonade from Rhodes.

Now, it’s your turn!  What are some random facts about you?

I love learning new things about people!

  1. Loved this post and getting to know you. Our son who is now 42 was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 7. He has done well and has now been on an insulin pump for 22 years. We are so thankful for all the wonderful advances made in this field for this terrible condition. Wishing you and your precious family a wonderful 2019!

    1. Thank you, Lea! It gives me great hope knowing your son has done well with this disease for so long. I’m so thankful for the wonderful advances too. Thank you for linking up with me today!

  2. I loved getting to know you more! I was also scared to tell my husband I was pregnant with our second child because our oldest was 8 months old! My mom loves Karen Kingsbury books and tells me I need to read them all the time. Have a great Thursday!

  3. Thanks for hosting! Nice to meet you! So awesome you married your high school sweetheart, so cute. I’ve never heard of Karn Kingsbury, need to go look her up and my husband and I want to eventually foster kids, when our kids get a little older.

    1. Nice to meet you too! That’s what we did too with fostering. Our girls were 8 and 9 when we started the classes. I look forward to checking your blog out. Have a great day!

  4. I love that you and Chris were High School sweethearts. I did not know that. I have loved becoming friends with you through blogging. I am so proud of you and this link up and cannot wait to join you each month. Thank you so much for hosting Jen!

  5. Aww, my husband and I are high school sweethearts too! I love that! We were 16 though, just a year older than you were 🙂 And I love baths too, I don’t get to take one every night but I do take a few each week. I have restless leg syndrome and sometimes it helps my muscles relax at night.

  6. Hi! New follower here 🙂 I’m glad your daughter is rocking diabetes! I have about 8 people in my life who are T1D, including my little brother and my best friend of 25 years. It’s definitely a struggle sometimes but you can definitely live a full and happy life with diabetes 🙂 I thought I was the only person on the planet who didn’t drink anything with caffeine! haha you should see some of the looks I get when I tell people that!

    1. So glad you commented. I can’t wait to go check your blog out. My nephew and daughter were diagnosed within two months from each other and they are the first in our family with it. Liz is doing so great with it. I’m glad to find someone else that doesn’t drink caffeine. We are very rare! HA

    1. I decided the day my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes to give it up. If she couldn’t drink it, neither could I was the philosophy I had. It was SO hard at first, but I’m glad I did it.

  7. Oh friend! I’m so glad we’ve met through this little blogger world! We should all plan to fly and meet up somewhere..NYC or something crazy like that one day!! Can’t wait to keep sharing here!!

  8. Loved learning more about you. I can’t believe that you met your husband when you were only 15! And my kids are exactly 18 months apart – I guess yours are 17 months apart. I had planned to have a post ready for the link up today but the time got away…sorry! I also loved how you said that blogging is for you! I love the attitude of not worrying about followers, page views etc.

  9. Too funny – I said the opposite about knowing song words by heart! I’m much shorter than you at only 5’2. I enjoyed reading about you here today!

  10. I began dating my husband at 16! We had a giant whirlpool tub installed in our master bath because I KNEW I would definitely get lots of use out it. I too am a bath girl.

  11. Hi, I am new to your blog and discovered you through some of the gals who participated in this month’s 10 on the 10th. Going to run to my blog and dash off a 10 on the 10th real quick. Had asked Erin if she was going to continue the series and when she said no, I was so sad. Haven’t always been able to link-up but think this is such a fun series and so easy to remember!!
Love that you started dating your hubs when you were 15. Wow. And that you were pregnant with your second daughter when your first was less than a year old. My girls are exactly two years apart. That was challenge enough…can’t imagine how tough having babies even closer together. My hat goes off to you!! Leslie at onceuponatimehappilyeverafter.com

    1. Glad you found me! I can’t wait to read your post. Yes, having the girls so close together was very interesting! Lol
I hope you will join me every month. 🙂 have a great day!

  12. You are amazing for giving up caffeine for a year! I’m not a morning person at all so feel like I need it for a little boost before work! I am kind of the same way about blogging — it’s not about the pageviews or comments, I just like sharing things & keeping sort of an online scrapbook of m life!
